This blog post is a Ford Vs Ferrari Film Review. So before we begin, we would like to say that there are spoilers ahead. Please do read at your own risk. Thank you very much!
Have you ever had a rival that just gave you the worst time of your life? Rivalry is a universal thing and, fortunately, the cinema has been able to capture some of the most famous rivalries throughout history. We've got Batman vs. The Joker, Marvel vs. Capcom, and Titanic vs. the iceberg. For all the car lovers out there, here is a new film you might want to check out. Released November 15th, "Ford vs Ferrari" is an exciting biopic that revolves around the rivalry between the American car company and the Italian luxury car giant. During its release in the box office, the Matt Damon and Christian Bale starrer garnered commercial and critical success. It received mostly positive praise from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and took home $64 million in the box office on its first week. In this post, we are going to talk about the plot and should you watch it.
Ford Vs Ferrari - The Plot
Just like any movie about cars, Ford Vs Ferrari has plenty of beautiful cars. But it's not just about cars; it's also about how the corporate circle can manipulate things over and how keen friendship can withstand everything. AS mentioned, the movie is centered on the tension brewing between Ford and Ferrari before and during the 1966 24 hours of Le Mans. Ford wants to have a slice of that glorious cake, so they try to collaborate with the Ferrari to build a racecar. But the negotiations go awry. So, instead of becoming collaborators, Ford vows to pin down Ferrari in the Le Mans '66. Ford hires Carroll Shelby (Damon) who won the 1959 Le Mans but was forced to retire early because of his health conditions, to design their racecar. In turn, Shelby hires his friend Dan Miles (Bales), a very talented driver with an equally disruptive attitude.
Things could have gone well until Henry Ford II (Tracy Letts) gets Leo Beebe (Josh Lucas) - aka the main antagonist - to oversee the Ford racing department. It looks like Beebe has some beef over Miles and Shelby and wants them - especially Miles - out. But this proves to be a complicated thing to do as the two know their craft well, and they are confident they can bring Ford success on what is now the famed Le Mans 66. We would love to give out every detail of everything, but the plot ends here so you can enjoy the movie when you watch it.
Is It A Good Movie?
The Good: Ford Vs Ferrari is a movie that pretty much has everything you're looking for in movies about cars. There's the car action, there's the drama that boils between entities, and there's the comedic punchlines. If you love your car history, you don't want to miss this one. The production did an excellent job of evoking the spirit of the times. From the direction down to its cinematography, setting, buildup, and sound are on point, making you sit on the edge. It's also essential to note the excellent performance of the actors. Damon and Bale did an absolute performance as Shelby and Miles, respectively. Lucas also did a convincing performance as the selfishly ruthless Beebe.
The (Not So) Bad: Probably the only negative that comes to mind is that the movie takes too long. It's two hours and thirty minutes long, an hour longer than an average movie length. But what salvage the movie from its length is that director James Mangold (Logan) knows how to make long movies enjoyable. The organization of the plot makes the movie very interesting from point to point. Ergo, it's not as dragging as some long movies are.
So, do we recommend it that you should watch Ford Vs Ferrari? Definitely. It's not a one-of-a-kind car movie/biopic, but it's a movie worth watching, especially if you're a car aficionado. Make sure to watch it with your fellow car brothers and sisters to make the movie more enjoyable. Also, check out our array of used cars for sale if you're looking for one.
